Positivity Pal, a Hackathon project

Inspiration:: The state of mental health in America during covid-19 is a big issue when 53% of US adults report a significant negative impact on mental health, due to covid-19. Many people are feeling lonely due to shelter in place requirements and feel discouraged due to covid-19.

What it does:: We created a mental health virtual assistant that asks the user how they are feeling and responds positively to the user's input. If the user's response is negative, the virtual assistant will respond with an encouragement. If the user's response is positive, the virtual assistant will respond with an affirmation. The virtual assistant acts like a cheerleader, parent, or friend to the user.

How we built it :: We used the Google Cloud Console, DialogFlow, and Google Actions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:: It has been difficult training the model and getting things perfect. We still have a long way to go. We are happy we created this virtual assistant, because we believe it will help many people during Covid, when human interaction is limited. We hope that users who are feeling isolated can talk to our virtual assistant and get positive feedback about how they are feeling so they are able to get through these difficult times.

What's next for Positivity Pal :: We would like to fix errors and continue building the project to encompass a wider range of feelings as well as a wider range of responses.

Built With :: dialogflow google-actions google-cloud
